Learning Enrichment
KSI believes each child is unique and encourages students to achieve their learning potential. New students are assessed on entry and those requiring additional learning support are identified and appropriate structures put in place.
Parents will be informed if their child requires additional support and it is important that they trust the school’s judgement as decisions about support or extension are always made in the best interests of the child. Teachers attempt to preserve a pupil’s self-esteem by responding to a specific learning difficulty in terms of enhancement rather than remedy. Teacher expectations and a pupil’s own self-confidence are very important parts of the learning process and concentrating on the positive aspect attempts to preserve this.
English and Spanish as a Second Language Programme (ESL)
Case Manager
Students requiring extra learning support work with a Case Manager, our neuropsychologist who will assess the child and support them with their learning. Our Case Manager works closely with student’s teachers, helping them through their strategies and providing the best environment for them to succeed.
Creativity, Action and Service (CAS)
Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) is one of the essential elements that every student must complete as part of the IB Diploma Programme (DP). It enables students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development by learning through experience.
CAS involves students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies.
- Creativity – arts, and other experiences that involve creative thinking.
- Activity – physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle, complementing academic work elsewhere in the DP.
- Service – an unpaid and voluntary exchange that has a learning benefit for the student. The rights and autonomy of all those involved are respected.
In order to demonstrate these concepts, students are required to undertake a CAS project. The project challenges students to: show initiative, demonstrate perseverance, collaboration, problem solving and decision making.
A good CAS programme should be both challenging and enjoyable – a personal journey of self‑discovery. Each student has a different starting point, and therefore different goals and needs, but for many their CAS activities include experiences that are profound and life‑changing.
Tutorials
We want to provide the best education possible and ensure our students receive the support they need to keep up with their classmates. During school and after school hours, we offer both individual and group tutorials with teachers, helping those students requiring extra support in class. Tutorials provide a comfortable environment where students are supported and encouraged to seek that extra help with their studies.
